Clash of the Titans

Bubo

Warner Bros have recently released the first teaser trailer for the remake of Clash of the Titans.  The first movie, released in 1981, starred a young Harry Hamlin as Perseus, hero of Greek mythology and told the story of his fight against the snake headed Medusa among other adventures.

Clash of the Titans made use of stop-motion animation led by the great Ray Harryhausen and had a huge budget for the time.  Other cast included Laurence Olivier, Maggie Smith, Ursula Andress and Burgess Meredith.  Unfortunately the movie suffered from a stupid mechanical owl named Bubo and a whole bunch of day-for-night shooting, which makes it look really strange.

The new film stars Sam Worthington, who recently starred in Terminator Salvation, along with Christian Bale aka the worst actor of all time.   Also starring is Liam Neeson as Zeus, which should be ok.  Neeson is usually quite watchable, although he can be a little wooden.

Sadly, the trailer looks pretty bad, and it seems to want to be a clone of the 300 movie.  Of course, it’s early days and the trailer doesn’t show much apart from some action shot mostly in the dark.

Titans is directed by Louis Leterrier, who also took the helm of the Less-Shit-Of-The-Two Incredible Hulk films.  He also  directed Transporter 2, and Danny the Dog, but  I haven’t seen those, so I won’t comment.  He seems to like his action though.

I guess Titans will be a brains-off action film with loads of sweaty muscles and dirt.  I guess if the effects are alright I’ll give it a shot.  Check out the teaser yourself, and see what you think.
